The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has had its share of successes recently. As we continue to improve teaching and learning, our scores rose 13 points on the state’s Academic Performance Index (API) scores rose 13 points a second consecutive year of double-digit progress. Six LAUSD schools were honored with 2009 National Blue Ribbon Awards, a designation by the U.S. Department of Education, shared by only 264 public schools nationally.
California’s 2009 National Distinguished Principal Dr. Angel J. Barrett is from Plummer Elementary School. The LAUSD serves a student population of over 800,000 children grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The 162 Magnet schools enable LAUSD to compete with the private schools. Other Los Angeles children are served by the Las Virgenes Unified School District. The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts is governed and operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Los Angeles realtors are a good resource for school district and boundary information. Los Angeles listings will generally disclose the schools that serve a particular address.
